Professors

The faculty members of the course of Popular Demands and Regional Dynamics was constituted from the parameters contemplated in the Area Document 2013 in relation to the evaluation in Urban and Regional Planning/Demography. Considering this first reference along with the context of origin of the proposal on the UFT campus, professionals were able to formulate questions in a constituted scenario, starting with an article published in 2014 in which the researchers of the Center for Studies of Economic Development (CEDE), linked to the Postgraduate Program in Economic Development of the University of Campinas (Unicamp), called “a centrality of the municipality of Araguaína - TO in the eastern Amazon”. According to the authors, the conditions observed in this municipality impose a series of problems that can be visualized from the following observation: the conditions of recent expansion of the mineral and agricultural frontiers in Brazil allowed the emergence of more dynamic intermediate cities and, consequently, a more dense and complex regional urban network. With the mechanization of the plantations and the consequent expulsion of part of the labor force to the cities, these processes have been intensified. (...)

Araguaína is a regional center of importance in the region of the expansion frontier, where intermediate cities have an increasingly important role of economic articulation. The teachers of the PPG DIRE have formative trajectories in different areas of knowledge (Biology, Literature, Psychology, Pedagogy, History, Geography, Public Administration), which contributes to a diversified and plural view on the issues that permeate regional development. As teachers belong to different graduation courses, the existence of integrated activities with the teaching bodies of the university is obligatory for the students of the Program, especially linked to the research centers and research projects of the university.

At present, the master's degree has ten permanent teachers, of whom are nine from the UFT/Araguaína Campus and one from the UFT/Palmas Campus, one collaborating professor from the UFT/Palmas Campus and two teachers in association with the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) and the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV).
